Why I built this
A few years back I sat with an owner who told me, proud as anything, that he was the one who knew how everything worked. His estimator had been with him fourteen years. If that guy walked, the bidding stopped. He said it like a compliment to the man, and he wasn't wrong about him. He just hadn't heard himself.
I've been that owner. Twenty-five years in the trades, thirteen of them running my own shop, up to about twenty-three people. Hair on fire, doing instead of leading, and convinced that was the job. Every question routed to me because I'd never given anyone a way to answer it themselves.
For the last six years I've worked with owners on the whole picture. Strong teams, real growth, good numbers, and a business that still stopped when the owner did. Every one of them had been told to write down how the work gets done. Most of them agreed it mattered. Almost none of them finished.
That's not a discipline problem. It's that documenting a process is somebody's third priority on a Tuesday, and it stays third forever. The people who know the work are the same people whose day is already full. So the folder gets started, four guides get written, and then quarter-end happens.
I built Process Champion for that specific gap. Not software that hands the work back to you with a nicer interface. Not a program where the documents are still your homework. We talk to your people, we watch how the work actually gets done, we reconcile the four different versions floating around, and we hand back something finished.
The part I didn't expect is how often the four versions are the real story. Somebody's been doing it right for years and nobody knew. Somebody else has been doing it wrong for just as long, and nobody knew that either. Sorting out which is which is most of the value, and it's the part you can't get from one person talking into a camera.
I'm still an EOS Implementer®, and I still do that work. This came out of it. Owners kept asking who actually writes this stuff down, and for a long time I didn't have a good answer.
